Why should the devil have all the good music

När jag var liten hade mina föräldrar, eller mina syskon (jag vet inte vem som ägde dem) ett par plattor av Cliff Richard. Jag lyssnade inte på dem. Jag kommer dock ihåg att jag var väldigt fascinerad av LP-omslaget till en av plattorna. Det var "Small Corners". På bilden var det ett mörkt källarliknande rum. Cliff Richard satt i ett hörn, barfota, och med skorna strax intill. Ljus kom uppifrån taket. Det såg ut som om han var instängd, eller likt Josef nedslängd i en brunn. Han satt där i hörnet och tycktes längta upp. På insidan (eller baksidan) av LP:n var det en bild på samma rum, men Cliff Richard var inte där, utan bara hans skor. Det var som om han hade blivit hjälpt bort från sin fångenskap. Jag tyckte att bilden var stark och jag tänkte på Josef. Jag tänkte också att det kanske var Gud som hade hämtat honom.

Jag har inte tänkt på Cliff Richard på många många år. Häromdagen fann jag dock en beskrivning av Cliff Richards liv. Han hade blivit stor kändis och skrev diverse profana (icke-religiösa) låtar. Sedan kom en vändning i Cliffs liv. Han blev kristen och fick stark kärlek till Gud. Han tänkte då att han skulle sluta med musiken och utbilda sig inom något annat område. Då sa en kristen vän till honom att han inte behöver ge upp sin musikkarriär bara för att han blivit kristen. Cliff har sedan dess profilerat sig mer som en kristen sångare och givit ut många plattor med kristna inslag. 

En låt som Cliff gjorde heter "Why should the devil have all the good music" och den tycks handla om hur han hanterade spänningsförhållandet att några kristna inte tyckte att man skall sjunga rockmusik som kristen i förhållande till hans egen kärlek till musiken.
